Abstract

Propose: The purpose of this study is to understand nurses¡¯ attitude and awareness about the necessity of an autopsy and to provide basic materials for forensic education and the new approach to an autopsy. Methods: Questionnaires were provided to 232 nurses in D city and G city from April 22, 2011 to April 29, 2011. Then, the statistics program SPSS 18.0 was used in analyzing the questionnaires¡¯ result. Results: According to the result, the nurses realize the necessity of an autopsy well, and their attitude to an autopsy was relatively positive. There were no differences in the awareness for the necessity of an autopsy according to the Nurses¡¯ general characteristics. However, the attitude depends on whether the nurses got married or not and funeral procedures. The result indicates that there is a correlation between the awareness and the attitude. Conclusion: The better the nurses understand the necessity of an autopsy, the more positive the nurses¡¯ attitude is. Thus, professional and systematic forensic education in nursing college are required to establish correct perception of an autopsy.
